He is a respectable elder, growing and promoting through hardness and difficulties, returning back to China, the mother town after completing his further education in the United State , thousands and hundreds miles far away. His nobility our Dr. Huang Baiyun!"
Huang Baiyun, a materials scientist, was born in Nan County, Hunan Province on November 24, 1945. He serves as a professor with PH.D in engineering, doctoral supervisor and president of Central South University (CSU) as well as an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He also serves as the director of Advanced Materials Experts Committee of the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (“863 Program”).
Dr. Huang has long been engaged in personnel training and research on materials science & engineering, and has done creative work on the research, application, and industrialization of advanced composite materials, aeronautical braking materials, high temperature engine structural materials and other key advanced materials. He is an expert in high tech new materials and takes the lead in powder metallurgy.
Dr. Huang graduated from Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1969, majoring in powder metallurgy. From 1969 to 1980, he worked in the Institute of New Materials of Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
From 1980 to 1986 he received master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Department of Material Science and Engineering of Iowa State University and AMES National Laboratory. From 1986 to 1988 he was a post doctoral researcher in Department of Material Science and Engineering of University of Tennessee. After completing his postdoctoral research in the United State in 1988, he determinedly gave up the preferential offer in the USA and came back to China with his family. He is the first returnee who completed a master’s degree, PhD. and postdoctoral fellowship in the United States after China’s reform and opening up.
